This Site will undergo a major renovation in the coming months.  Any bookmarks you have created to individual articles will most likely no longer work, but rest assured the information will still be available on the site.  Nothing will be removed!!  The new site will be mobile friendly so you can easily view from your tablet or smartphone. In 1821 Decatur County, along with Shelby, Rush and Henry Counties, was carved out of the southern part of Delaware County, and Greensburg was chosen in 1822 as the county seat. The first settlers chose land along the rivers in the northern tier of townships. The standard history of the county is Lewis Harding, History of Decatur County Indiana (1915). The city of Decatur, Indiana is not in Decatur County, but in Adams County
