The Fort Wayne Sentinel

14 NOV 1888 Page 2

Mr. Scott Ray will contest the election in which he was defeated for joint senator of Shelby and Decatur counties. The contest will be based on the fact that Edward Speer, and uncle of William W. Lowe, candidate for surveyor of Decatur county, acted as inspector of election in the northeast precinct of Washington township, Decatur county, contrary to law. The law forbids any person acting on the election board who is a relative of any of the candidates to be voted for. The use of money will also be charged against Mr. Carpenter.
