SHERMAN PATTON REPORTED KILLED IN ACTION JULY 19

NEWS OF HIS DEATH REACHING HERE FORWARDED TO WIFE AT KINGSPORT, TENN. LAST NIGHT.

FIFTH LOCAL MAN TO DIE

The fifth local man had made the supreme sacrifice in the war. Official notice was received here last night to the effect that Sherman Patton, 29, had been killed in action July 19,. No details were given. Patton was last heard from in Belgium but the date of his death indicates that he was in the fighting on the Aisne-Marne front during the big offensive.

News of his death came in a telegram to his wife, Mrs. Myra Patton, who is now at Kingsport, Tenn., and was forwarded to her. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Brown, of West Main Street.

Sherman Patton was sent to Camp Taylor, Ky., about ten months ago 2with a draft increment and had been overseas two or three months. He is the first married man to be killed and is the second casualty of the selective service men from this county.

Besides the wife he is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. David B Patton, of two miles west of town, a brother, Elmer, of Elizabethtown, and a sister, Mrs. Luther Dickenson, of Indianapolis and a host of friends. This is the fourth local casualty to be reported in a week and again brings home the war. The memory of Sherman Patton will ever be honored ____with the other brave boys who have given up their lives in the great struggle for freedom.
